hdac inhibitor = cure?
May 12, 2013

hello doctor, i read that the danish researchers are using an hdac inhibitor to get hiv out of the reservoir. can you explain what this means? is this a cure? will we be able to use it on everybody soon? thank you for your time.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

These compounds are the focus of intense research. Basically, they have been found to activate latent HIV infected cells, which are more easily killed by the immune system. The theory is that if you can get the latently cells turned on you could flush out all the infected cells in the body. This is still a work in progress.
