|HIV cure within months
May 5, 2013
I just read an article in the legitimate news this morning about research being done in Europe where there have been experiments where they flush out the HIV virus from a persons DNA resevoir and then are using some sort of former cancer drug to kill it.
First of all if this is true should they be saying things like HIV cure just months away. Won't it take many years of research and trials to make sure it is safe and effective? Second if this is being done in Europe and it comes to the United States, what would the FDA or government require. Thank you

We are at the early stages of thinking about and studying in people ways to flush HIV out of the system. Several approaches and drugs are currently being studied, both here in the US and in Europe. I don't think there is one clear answer yet to move forward. Regardless, if a candidate drug is found, larger clinical trials will need to be done, both here in the US and in Europe to look at both safety and efficacy.
