May 5, 2013

i had an episode of acute hepatitis, reports were done after 1 day of fever, viral reports were HBsAg negative, Anti HBc antibody IgM and total negative, HBe Ag negative, AntiHBs Antibody 70 miu/ml-( vaccinated with 3 doses -- 3 yrs ago, took booster dose last year for antubody level 17 miu/ml). while the HBV DNA PCR showed 1250 IU/ml. HCV RNA PCR Negative, IgM antibody for hepatitis A and E negative. can the PCR be false positive or it is occult HBV.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Unlikely to be a false positive at that level. Yes, this could represent occult HBV infection. The tests need to be repeated.
