understanding hcv/rna serum results

Apr 14, 2013

my mom just ahd resent blood work , prior to having surg. her alt/ast were slightly elevated so the doctor ran an additional test. her hcv/rna level came back as 12,207.322 and her hcv/rna qn.pcr is 7.09 we are very concerned for her since she has never been diagnosed with any problems in the past. she has had some very extensive dental work done in the last three years....

Response from Dr. Holodniy

The two numbers, represent the same number, but expressed in different mathematical terms. She has a HCV viral load of 12 million international units (IU)/ml or 7.09 log10 IU/ml. This indicates she has chronic HCV infection and that viral load level is a little higher than average. She needs to be evaluated by a liver specialist to see whether other blood tests or scans are required, and whether treatment is indicated at this time.

Is it safe to mix these meds?
