Rickettsia and AIDS
Feb 17, 2013

What does Rickettsia have in connection with AIDS? And why is AIDS resistant to Rickettsisa?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

There are several infectious agents that appear to modulate HIV infection by various mechanisms. People who have been infected with certain Rickettsia bacteria develop antibodies against that infection. People who are HIV infected and develop a rickettsial infection have been shown to have decreased HIV viral loads. In addition, when you take the serum from people with rickettsial infection and put it into a HIV culture in the lab, it can inhibit HIV infection.
