Question About Syphyllis

Jan 6, 2013

About a year ago I was diagnosed with neuro Syphillis and spent a week in the hospital getting IV pennecillan. A few months later my titer was still 1:128 and I got 3 injections of pennecillan. 6 months later my titer is still 1:128 - it hasn't changed at all. Am I still contagious? What should I do?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Unless for some reason you have come in contact again with syphilis, and you received the treatment you describe, you would not be considered contagious. I am assuming those titers are from blood. Did they ever get titers from the spinal fluid before treatment (I assume they must have if they made a diagnosis of neurosyphilis) and then after treatment to see whether it was effective?

i'm sorry
