HCV test

Nov 17, 2012

I dont understand my test results for HCV, can u help? HCV/RNA,Quantitative real time PCR - 10600000H - range<43iu/ml HCV/RNA,Quantitative real time PCR - 7.03H - range <1.63 logIU/ml, Genotype1. my dr. did not explain anything to me

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Your HCV viral load is 10 million IU (international units)/ml or 7.03 log10 IU/ml, which is the same number but expressed as a different mathematical expression. That viral load likely indicates chronic HCV infection and is moderately above the average viral load level of 1-5 million. You should discuss with your doctor whether other tests are indicate to look for evidence of liver damage and/or whether HCV treatment is indicated at this time.
