interpretation of hep b results
Nov 3, 2012

sorry, i think i did not give enough information on my reesults the first time. i took the first two shots of the hep b vaccine two years ago and did not take the 3rd one.the doctor recommended i test my antibody levels. my HbsAb came out as 190.48. i just got engaged and found out my husband has high viral load of hep b(170000000 IU/ml). he has just started treatment.can we have unprotected sex? can i be infected with it since the viral load is very high? when can we start having kids?will they be infected too?please advise

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Although the antibody level is sufficiently high to confer protection, it may not be a 100%, particularly if one has unprotected sex with someone who has a viral load of 170 million copies/ml. I think it would be best to discuss this with your obstetrician and a liver specialist.
