I am pregnant and had lab work completed at my first prenatal visit. My ELISA test came back repeatedly reactive and my Western Blot was indeterminate. I then had a second test performed. My Dr informed me today that I am HIV positive. I'm a little confused because my result for my western blot still reads "Indeterminate." My P24, P40, and P55 all came back reactive and my P51 was indeterminate. I'm a little confused as to whether or not I in fact have HIV or if my test was truly "Indeterminate". Any answers you can give me would be extremely helpful!! Thanks:)

The western blot pattern is not the typical pattern we see, and the bands that are positive on your test, would equate to an indeterminate and not positive result. You don't indicate the time interval between the repeat tests and whether the repeat tests both included a western blot test and this pattern was consistent or not. Since not all the bands are positive on the western blot, repeating it again could provide some further information as to whether additional bands are becoming positive. A more specific test like a HIV viral load or HIV DNA test could be helpful here.
