Low neutrophil - High lymphocyte
Oct 21, 2012
I am 58 yrs old & HIV positive for 15 yrs. My viral load is always undetectable (Atripla) & CD4 range from 700 - 1000. My doctor recently retired & e-mailed my medical records to me. Although he always told me that my results were normal, the records show a consistently low Neutrophil range (29-36) & high Lymphocyte (49-55). Absolute Lymphocyte (1878-2536) & absolute CD8 700-932, WBC (3.9-4.4). Not sure what these #'s mean or if I should be concerned. Is there something I can do to get my Neutrophils up ? Thanks

The neutrophil range you describe is the percent neutrophils and not the count. Let's use the average of your neutrophil percent (33%) and the total WBC count of 3900 to 4400 (4150), your absolute neutrophil count would be 1383. That is low, but does not worry me from a clinical standpoint. We get concerned when the neutrophil is below 500, as that is when people are at significant risk for developing other kinds of infections.
