| Non progressor Mar 11, 2012 Hi doc how do u evaluate the progression to differentiate a normal vs longtime non progressor? Had first infection in 2006. Stable and lower Cd4 around 400 from 2 years and VL 1200-2000 how will u consider me? Should I wait or start a regimen? Thanks |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
Time is the most important variable here. Six years with stable CD4 counts and a low, but detectable viral load points to slower progression, but not an elite controller, where the CD4 counts are generally in the normal range and the viral load is undetectable. Given the low, but detectable viral load, you will continue to lose CD4 cells over time. I think most experts would suggest starting treatment to preserve immune function. | |||||||||
