Hepatitus
Jan 15, 2012

How can I distinguish between alchol hepatitus and others from my lab results? I drank hard for 10 yrs., then stopped and went to beer 10 yrs., then off and on and now self free but suffered a cat bite in April and told I had Hepatius. There had been iquieries in ealier years but not taken seriously enough for treatment, Could this be alchol?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

There are not good blood tests that can discriminate between alcoholic hepatitis and other forms of hepatitis. Viral hepatitis can be screened for with blood tests. Some liver scans can determine whether there has been damage to the liver associated with alcohol, provided all the other blood tests have ruled out other causes.
