hiv drugs
Jan 15, 2012

just finished a 244 wk blind study with insntress/placebo, truvada/placebo and efavirenz/.placeb. found out that I was taking truvada in the AM and efavirenz in the PM. the doctor now wants me to take both medicines in the PM.is that safe? confused about taking both at once when I was taking them 12 hours apart! please advise.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Yes, perfectly safe. In fact efavirenz and truvada are combined into one pill now called Atripla, which is given once daily, usually at night. You were taking the efavirenz during the study twice daily because isentress is a drug that is given twice daily, whereas efavirenz and truvada are given once daily. So to maintain the blind, everything was given twice daily.
