| Zidovudine alone given to baby Dec 17, 2011 Good day doc. I am HIV positive, on Nevirapine and lamzid, last test CD4 count 836, viral load undetectable. Just had a baby on 30 Nov 2011 via C-Section. My baby is being given 5ml Zidovudine 6 hourly. My understanding is that Zidovudine should be given in combination with other HIV drugs. Should I be worried? Kind regards |

Assuming you were taking those HIV meds during your pregnancy, then yes, zidovudine as a single HIV drug for 6 weeks after birth is appropriate to give as prophylaxis to your baby. | |||||||||
