Recent Lab Results for HIV+ Patient

Nov 13, 2011

Hello. I recently received my lab results in the mail, and have been unable to reach my doctor to discuss. The results all appear WNL excelpt for the following: ABS. CD 8 SUPPRESSOR = 1055 (HIGH) %CD 8 POS. LYMPH. = 42.2 (HIGH) CD4/CD8 RATIO = 0.77 (LOW) NEUTROPHILS = 25 (LOW) LYMPHS = 62 (HIGH) NEUTROPHILS (ABSOLUTE) = 1.0 (LOW)

Is there any cause for concern regarding any of these results? I have been positive for over 10 years and have been doing well on my treatment regimen.

Thank you in advance for your professional assistance.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

It's hard to interpret these results without knowing the trend over time. In general, people with HIV infection will have an elevated CD8 count and percent, as a reaction to the infection. Probably most concerning is your neutrophil count of 1000. Has this been low before? Although it is not at a dangerously low level, it is approaching a level where we begin to get concerned about the ability to control various kinds of infections.
