Fall in CD4 count
Aug 14, 2011
I'm a 36yo man, being positive for 1.5years now, under Atripla treatment for over a year. I've been undetectable since september last year, and my CD4 count had increased over time, reaching in April 2011 the 789 count. However, today I received my lab results and despite being still undetectable, my CD4 fell to 600. I've been excersing and under a healty diet regimen for the last 3 months, including a 3 month steroid regimen; on the last month I've been pretty stressed due to my professional work. Could this stress/steroids be the issues behind this CD4 fall?
Response from Dr. Holodniy
Yes, that could be the likely cause. I am not concerned with that drop (which is still in the normal range) as many things can affect the CD4 count acutely, and suspect that the CD4%, which is usually a more stable number over time, has not changed.
