Severe conjunctivitis

Jan 30, 2011

I just got over a bout with a severe case of bacterial conjunctivitis in my eyes. More precisely, the doctor told me I had a staph infection in my eyes. In addition I had a cold, When I went for my labs the viral load was undetectable, less than 20 copies but my T cells dropped from 838 to 631. could the eye infection which lasted for 2 months be responsible for the T cell reduction.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Perhaps. We do know that with some kinds of ongoing infections the CD4 count will decrease and then recover once the infection has been cleared.
