I am concerned about low T-cells
Dec 19, 2010

I was diagnosed 12 yrs ago. I am currently 63. I have been on Norvir,Lexiva and Epzicom for the past 7 yrs. My t-cells were as low as 39 and slowly moved into the lower 300's. They are now around 260. Viral load has remained undetectible. I am concerned. Is this due to age that the T-cells have remained so low? I do not have any risky sexual practices. Feel almost "asexual". Any thoughts or suggestions or am I just paranoid?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Given the low CD4 count to start with, in many people, the likelihood of getting a CD4 count back up into the normal range is low. Age may have a small part to do with this. But if you have been able to maintain an undetectable viral load and a CD4 count in the 250-300 range, then you are for the most part out of the danger zone of developing serious infections.
