anal fistula with hiv
Jun 20, 2010

Hi i am an hiv positive female who just had surgery for a severe anal abscess. now i am told i also have a fissure and a fistula. at this time am waiting to have the fistula surgery within a few weekss. in the mean time i am bleeding from my rectum its a good ammount of blood. is this normal and should i be worried about colon cancer even though i am only 29 years old. colon cancer does run in my family also. any information you could give me would be great.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Very unlikely to be colon cancer, given your age, and more likely to be associated with your current problem.
