dear doctor, my husband is seropositiv from last year.he found in to the first infection and he doesn't take any medicine yet.analyses he is making every 4 months,to the last one he had 499cd4 14% but the doctors said that is not necessary yet to start medicines.for the last 10 days he has dihareea 5-6 times/day and candida.what can we do?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

You don't indicate whether an HIV viral load test was also performed and what the result of that test was. Although his CD4 count is quite good at 499, his percent of 14% is quite low for that count and indicates some significant immune system damage. Given the diarrhea and a yeast infection that you describe, I would disagree and say that HIV meds are probably indicated and he should start now.
