Confused about interpreting CD4 and ratio
Mar 7, 2010

I am sorry to ask what may seem like a redundant question. However, I have done numerous searches in Google and in the answer forum here.

I am positive for 25 years and my doc emailed my labs. I have an amazingly compassionate generous doctor. He is quite far away and I hate to inundate him with calls and emails. The ratio and count confuses me still.I wish it were simpler for me but I sense I am not alone seeing all the questions and answers here. I guess it is more about the percentages.

My recent labs are as follows:HDL 69

LDL 185

Total chol 277

Triglycerides 117

CD4 273, 15%

Viral load <48

Now I realize my cholesterol is not great and we are working on that together since I don't tolerate statin drugs at all. I am now using Lovaza and monitoring diet as usual. My biggest concern is the ratio. Is there a link to understand this in plain English? Thank you for your help. I come here now and then to read up on things over the years and refer many others as well. You all do an amazing job with this service. Sincere Thanks

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I am not sure you are referring to the CD4/CD8 ratio which you didn't post or a ratio related to your cholesterol. Let me know and I'll try and flush it out for you.
