cd4 count rise
Dec 27, 2009

i`ve been hiv positive for 6 yrs, i`m 26, and have, always had an undetectable viral load. the meds i`m on are truvada and sustiva. and have no side effects nor nothing. so all in all i`m a very lucky person. now then still all good but confusing, i was told an average normal healthy humans cd4 should be roughly between 500-1000, mine has always been between 500 an 800, now after all this time its shot right up to 1286?, why has this happened, an what are the benefits, i take recreational drugs, amphetimine been the most common, i smoke, but dnt drink alchohol at all?. thank you

Response from Dr. Holodniy

The CD4 count can vary for a variety of reasons, but the CD4% is usually a more stable number over time. I don't usually pay much attention to CD4 count variability when it is in the normal range, which for many labs is between 500-1500. There is likely no real benefit in that elevated count. A bigger benefit to you would be to stop smoking and using recreational drugs.
