Nov 14, 2009

My laboratory rusult is HCV Genotype 1a, HCV RNA by PCR 1495512, Log of HCV RNA 6.2. Based on your website this falls lower viral serum; however my doctor said viral load is too high, blood platelets too low, white blood count too low and he said he has no treatment available for me. Why? (my spleen & liver swollen)

Response from Dr. Holodniy

That HCV viral load is about average. I don't completely understand your doctor's comments. There is specific treatment for your infection. However, if your blood counts are too low (this can be a sign of the infection), then the HCV treatment might make those blood counts worse, as this is a side effect of the medications.
