| very low CD4, very high VL, all in 5 months? Nov 14, 2009 Hello, I have recently been diagnosed with a CD4 of 53 and VL > half million. I have no defining symptoms and have started HAART with no problems. Question is, my last HIV test was 12 months ago and result was HIV-. Could my CD4 and VL have reached these levels in 12 months? The reason I ask is the HIV- result was from a dodgy hospital in a developing country. I'd like to know if there is reason to believe I was HIV+ before then. Thank you. |

It would be unusual, but possible that you were negative a year ago and now have such a low CD4 count. This may be a reflection of your immune system and the type of virus strain you got (more aggressive or virulent). On the other hand, you could have had a false negative test a year ago and been infected some time before that to account for such a low CD4 count. | ||||||||||
