| Delta32 CCR5, testing to find out if I am Sep 26, 2009 Hi, I recently read the story about the man who underwent a bone marrow transplant, receiving marrow from a doner who was homozygous delta32 CCR5. My question is how does one go about being testing to see if one has this homozygous condition. I am HIV- and would like to help. Is it a test that is common enough for any "Joe" to get tested for? I also noticed that there was a question posted back in February from a person who had found that he was homozygous delta32 CCR5 and wondered if he would be able to help with any research or treatment. There was no answer posted for that part of his question. If there is a way for people who are homozygous to be of help it would be good to know, especially in light of the man who was functionally cured of HIV. Thanks! |

Yes there are tests for it. The case you cite was a very special case, and a proof of concept. It is unlikely that this exact approach could be used on a wide scale. However, research into utilizing similar approaches goes on. | ||||||||||
