| lowring of my CD4 from 450 to 220 in 2 months Jun 21, 2009 I am 31 yo and not under madication, was diagnosed 1 year ago, my CD4 has always been up and down from 380 to 580, and my viral load never higher than 20,000. Four months ago CD4 was in 450 and i had a lab test for my insurance stuff and it came back that in 2 months it went down to 220, at the same time my VL which was in 20,000 went also down to 5,000. the doc said this is not normal especially since i think i was infected a year and a half ago, besides the VL is very low, why is my CD4 so low in such a reduced amount of time? im taking another test this week but feeling really frightened. |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
I am not so concerned about the viral load variability, but your CD4 counts are definitely bouncing around. Another number to follow is the CD4% which is a more stable number over time. If the CD4% has fallen by > 3% over the year and the CD4 absolute count of 220 is confirmed, then it is probably real. If the CD4% is relatively stable, then I would be less concerned. It's good you are getting another test, which will hopefully resolve the issue. | |||||||||
