| 9 mo. old baby, husband tested + Jun 14, 2009 My husband recently went to the doctor complaining of wide spread pain and a swollen lymph node that had swelled to the size of a quarter. He went for labs and his WBC count was 2.5. Other test out of range were MCHC which was 36 and abs neut which was 1.1. His doctor that ordered more labs. One of the labs was an HIV which we not worried about AT ALL since we have a 9 mo. old and I went through routine pregnancy screens. My HIV 1/2 was non-reactive. (This was in Jan. 08) Well, when my husband got back his HIV two days ago we were floored to find it was reactive. They did the confirmative western blot which came back: "inconclusive due to non-specific staining on the strip which obscures some antibody bands that may be present". This has worried us sick since he can't get retested for 1 month. I know my husband would NEVER cheat! He is such a dedicated family man and loves both me and my baby girl so much. That as a possible reason is completely out of the questions. Is it possible that this is a false positive? What causes this? Is this fairly common? We read on other sites that it is unusually rare to have a false positive and that these tests are 99.5% accurate, referring to the HIV 1/2 antibody test. IS it possible that my test was a false negative during pregnancy? WE are both scared to death for our infant more than anything. Please help us and advise us. |
