Please help me... A mommy worried
May 30, 2009

i am very worried lately. My Ex husband was found positive for HIV in april of this year. I have not had sex with him in about 3 and a half years now (dec 2005). Very very Shortly before we broke up i had a baby.Im worried about my child's health and my health, do they test for HIV during pregnancies?

He cheated on me while i was pregnant..most selfish thing anyone can do.. he got tested for HIV back in summer of 2006 and came up negative... since then also, in 2007 i have donated plasma a few times, i would hope that the plasma centers would have contacted me if my blood was contaminated with HIV ?? but what has me worried is that he saying it can take years to detect on a blood test?? I heard just months after potential infection?? Please help me.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

HIV testing is usually conducted during pregnancy. However, to be safe, you and your child should be HIV tested.
