| Inmate Infected May 10, 2009 I am in jail in Arizona. They did blood work shortly after I was arrested, because I knew I was already infected. That was in Feb.. I just received my results. My CD4 is 218 and my VL is 11,000. Sorry, they did not give me the %. They said it would probably be a couple of months before I see a specialist. Should I be concerned? |

Response from Dr. Holodniy
Well your numbers are at a point where HIV treatment is recommended. There is no emergency but you do need to get started, as there is likely to have been a further decline in CD4 count in the last 3 months. In addition, you probably need to start an antibiotic (like septra or bactrim) to prevent getting other kinds of infections because your immune system is already compromised. | |||||||||
