Why CD% is not rising
Mar 15, 2009

Hello,

I've had HIV for 3 years and have been on Atripla ever since. My first numbers were CD4 266 and vl >100K. My CD4 numbers have generally trended upward such that recently they were 875 and vl undetectable (<48). The percentage, however stays the same at about 32% and doesn't vary at all. If the total CD4 is rising significantly, shouldn't the percentage be rising proportionately? Is something wrong? My doctor focuses on the actual CD4 number, not the percent.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Your percent is in the normal range, as is your absolute count. I would not be concerned. You may not see a further increase, as this may be your "normal level". Your numbers are great.
