Would I show symptoms after 15 years
Jan 31, 2009

It all started in I think 1994. I had sex with a female in central America and the condom split. I stopped straight waway, but to this day I have always worried about having cuaght HIV. Anyway the years past I never had the guts to go and find out. Through the years though I had sciatica and developed Hay Fever/Asthma. never had that diagnosed either. this has affected my relationship with my partner, as I am too afraid to do anything with her. So yes this has been a problem tuckd up in my head as I have not shared it with her. I did go for a test 4 years ago, and the Elisa came back positive, and the Western Blot Indeterminate. they did a retest and came up with the same conclusion. they asked the time scale of probalbe infection, and stated that I was OK. The indeterminate bit played on my mind, and I researched this. Some people say that if you have advanced HIV this could return inderminate. but how long can one have advanced HIV. I have been what I class as a fit person, being in the forces, doing Triathlon, and rugby. Would this maybe delay the affects? Recently I have got flat warts on the back of my hands, and get Athletes foot fairly easy. but I do train twice a day, in the pool, gym, running etc. So could easily pick it up. I guess the only way to prove that I am ok to see the doctor, but am not sure. I have been living with this personal stress for many years now, and I pray that is the cause. Thanks for your help.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Yes, you need to go see a doctor and get retested.
