hep b dna and cancer
Jan 25, 2009

I am undergoing chemotherapy for metastatic breast cancer. My hep b dna viral load is around 64,000 and it was 18,000 a month ago. Do you think treatment is necessary at this time since immune system is weak?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

That is a very complex question to answer. Given how low your HBV viral load is, HBV treatment is likely to be effective. However, depending on what chemotherapy treatment you are receiving, and what HBV treatment you receive, it could result in additive toxicity.
