4 months on HAART lab results

Dec 7, 2008

Dear Doctor Holodniy,

My partner entered hospital in July 2008 with PCP. Diagnosed HIV+. Started sustiva & truvada on august 1st(& Septrin daily) His labs have been; August 1st: VL43,000; CD4=3;CD4%=1%

September 1st: VL 225;CD4=46;CD4%=3%

October 1st: VL 220;CD4=120;CD4%=6%

November 12th;VL 54;CD4=91;CD4%=6%

Dr., do these numbers seem OK.?

we would have liked to have seen his CD4 absolute figures a bit higher, but we understand that they can fluctuate a bit -and he also started from a very very low base. Just hoping he gets above the all important 200 mark eventually.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

HIs numbers look fine. He is starting from very low numbers. Once the viral load is undetectable for a period of time the CD4 count/percent will increase. To what level is unclear at this point.
