The baby
Nov 15, 2008

Hi im hiv positive and had a baby November 2006, my baby is 23months now..When i was pregnant my cd4 count was 1300 and vl >50, i didnot take any treatment(ARV's) when i was pregnant i only had Navirapine(sp)on a drip before the c-section and after that my baby took the syrup for 6weeks and i didnot breastfeed..

I havent taken my baby for HIV test maily because of fear of dealing with the results should they come back positive..

I know the test is the only gurantee thing to determine the status of my baby but what are the chances that my little one is infected with the virus?

Thank you.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

The risk of infection for your baby is low, but you absolutely must have your baby tested now.
