Travel restrictions

Oct 26, 2008

Hi there.

Am a in South africa and not yet on meds. I may start meds soon but am a bit reluctant as am planning a trip to Paris and return via Dubai in June 2009. My reluctance is based on possible travel restrictions on meds to these countries? Are there any? If yes, how do I starts my meds and ensure I dont skip a dose for 2 weeks? Or should i delay my starting ARV's until after my trips? My CD4 was shockily low at 168 compared to 348 six months prior so i really now need to be on meds.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I don't know if there are any travel restrictions in these areas. However, given your CD4 count, I would not wait to start HIV meds.
