is there a blood test for HPV
Apr 20, 2001

Hello doctor, I was wondering if there is an antibody blood test for genital warts and human papilloma virus thanks a lot

Response from Dr. Holodniy

I am not sure what a blood test would be useful for. Most HPV lesions can be diagnosed visually. The importance is really in distinguishing which type of HPV is present. This is done by molecular testing. Some types of HPV for instance can cause cervical cancer.
