I don't understand my results.
Sep 14, 2008

My test came back positive for antibodies but negative for the actual HIV virus. What could this mean? The last time I had sex with anyone was over 3 months ago.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

You don't indicate what test. If the screening HIV antibody and western blot confirmatory tests were both positive, then you have HIV infection. You also don't indicate when if ever you had a previous HIV test. People with HIV infection can certainly have an undetectable viral load and still be infected.
