Response from Dr. Holodniy
There are tests that can be done on the fluid to determine if there are malignant cells in the fluid. That is a high level of alpha feto protein (AFP), and are suggestive of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), or liver cancer. A liver scan can also help make the determination. In many people with HCC caused by HCV infection, they develop accumulations of fluid in the abdomen that do require periodic drainage. | |||||||||
