|Differing Progression Rates
Jun 29, 2008
I acquired HIV about a year ago, from my bf who acquired it sometime before that (we're not sure when). Our initial lab results were about the same, with viral loads of 8k/9k respectively. Our most recent results, however, show a significant discrepancy. His latest had a CD4 of around 600, VL of 4k. Mine had a CD4 of 583 (29%), but a VL of almost 24k. Do you have any idea what might be causing the difference, and where I might do some further reading on the topic?

Even if the same strain is passed between people, everybody comes to HIV infection with a different immune response that is dependent on your underlying immune system and genetics.
