HCV Viral Load test
May 17, 2008

Dear Dr. H.

I went through one year of treatment (pegasys and Ribavirin) Geno 1A for Hepatitis C in 2003 and was undetectable after 6 months. I have remained undectable for 5 years but my Dr. continues to test me for HCV viral load. Is it possible that the hepatitis could return? It just seems like a waste of money to keep testing every other blood test. Thanks.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Yes, it is possible, although unlikely given the time that has past. It is still useful to be monitored for any sign of recurrence.
