Genotype results
Apr 6, 2008

Dr. I just got my very first counts (2500 Virus Load and 440 Tcells count) Am waiting for the genotype results to decide if am going to start on meds. My concern is how resistant could be the virus and if am going to have enough meds options?

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Getting the genotype resistance test is indeed a good idea before starting treatment. The likelihood of having received a viral strain that is resistant to one medication can be as high as 5-10%. The likelihood of getting a multidrug resistant virus is very very small. Therefore, you have lots of options available for treatment regimens.
