Maximum time of the HIV antibody production?
Apr 16, 2001

Hi doctor Mark Holodniy I m medical student. My medical Prof. said to us in my infection lesson about HIV antibody production 2 weeks to 2 years. Is it true? Is there any report about antibody after 6 months? I think 2 years very long time and impossible. my second Question : same Prof. said some people body Didn't produce HIV antibody? thank u

Response from Dr. Holodniy

With the current generation of antibody tests, I am not aware of antibodies taking 2 years to develop. Although people have been found to be infected with HIV (by PCR and cultureI and not have evidence of antibodies, these were people with advanced AIDS. We don't know whether these people had produced antibody before they came to medical attention.
