Hi, I'm a Hep B carrier. Recent lab results show HBV DNA QT 1080copies/ml,AFP is 7.6. My doc prescribed Hersera for treatment. I've never tested virus load before. Should I be on treatment? Is this the right drug to use? Thanks!

Response from Dr. Holodniy

A detectable HBV viral load indicates chronic infection. Although that would be considered a low HBV viral load, I can't comment on the appropriateness of treatment initiation, as there may be other factors involved that went into that decision. That is one of several appropriate drugs to use in the treatment of HBV infection.
