|Indeterminate test reult for HIV patient
Feb 17, 2008
I am an HIV/ STD Prevention Counselor in Indiana and I have recently had two labs come back on the same patient as Indeterminate one was pulled veina puncture on 10/23/2007 I waited and pulled the second veina puncture test on 01/24/2008/(3 months in between). I have seen this one other time with a female patient a few years back who never converted and always stayed as Indeterminate on her labs. My Q is what causes this and is this person at risk for developing HIV beyond CDC recommended window period??. Do I need to keep testing him even though he continues to have this result. I am very confused and I would like to know what could cause this or if I should have a NATT test ran on him?? any help is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, my policy is not to answer questions regarding HIV testing discrepancies. Generically, I will say that it can depend on which bands are present initially and whether they evolve or not that can help determine whether this is HIV infection or not.
