CD4 AND VL Down?!
Jan 27, 2008

Drs,

Before starting my meds (Truvada, Reyetaz Norvir) , my CD4 fluctuated from 277 (27.7%) to 240 (26%) then to 310. My VL, was at 40,000.

After two weeks of taking the medication, my VL was 129, but my CD4 was 274.

These results confuse me a bit... How is it that my VL dropped so dramatically (good thing), but my CD4 didn't improve - it even declined by about 30 points?

should I be worried that my regimen is not working?

thanks.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

One piece of missing information is what did the CD4% do after starting treatment? As long as that did not go down significantly there is nothing to worry about. I would not make much about changes in CD4 count after only 2 weeks of treatment. It is very important that the viral load is going down significantly.
