In the forum I read somebody, says his doctor, told him to stop med. because his CD4 was 860 and viral load<400copies. I was thinking the med. is for rest of our life. My question is how high your CD4 count should go up, to stop medicine assume the viral load is undetectable. Write now CD4 is 500. How long it takes to be HIV specialist, if I have science degree now. Thanks for your help God bless u.

Part of the answer depends on what your CD4 count was prior to starting HIV treatment. If your CD4 count was say < 300-400, then most experts would not recommend stopping. If however, your CD4 was above 500 when you started then it would not be unreasonable to stop for awhile.

Becoming an HIV specialist requires 4 years of medical school, and residency program of 3 years or more usually in internal medicine, followed by some HIV specialty training of 1-3 years.
