Unavoidable break during treatment with Baraclude
Jan 7, 2008

HBV DNA Results in June06: SGPT 70, HBV DNA 706000000 copies/ml, Treatment with Baraclude started in May, 2007, Recent Test in Nov,07 shows, SGPT 52, HBV DNA 5,516 copies/ml. My doc said never skip any tablet during your treatment but due to an unavoidable reason i skipped tablets for 30 days. during May07-to Nov07. My Question is (1) How harmful it is to skip any tablet during the course. (2) why my doc said that your DNA sample should have been Zero within this period. Did it happen due to skipping it for 30days.

please answer.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

30 days off or stuttering treatment over that course could have caused your virus to develop resistance to the treatment. Six months of treatment should have resulted in a undetectable viral load.
