| UNDETECTABLE VIRAL LOAD WITH LOW CD4 Nov 4, 2007 I am currently showing undetectable vl, CD4 count 140, I have been pos since 1989. Please advise does this meaning I am getting closer to a AIDS dx. I have been on numerous medications, currently on T20 and several others. Not sure what is the more accurate marker for progression. Thank you. |

An AIDS diagnosis occurs when the CD4 count is < 200 or the CD4% is < 14%. Given your CD4 count, you have an AIDS diagnosis. The good news is your viral load is undetectable. That means that you have stopped for the most part and further destruction of your immune system. Your CD4 count though does mean you are still at risk for opportunistic infections and require some antibiotics like septra or bactrim to prevent these. | |||||||||
