It can be due to several things, the bone marrow not making enough, platelets being destroyed faster than they can be made, or production being adequate, but the liver and spleen storing them abnormally (called sequestration) so they may not be available to the body to use. Certain medications (like aspirin) can also affect the number and function of platelets. | |||||||||
