Vaccine efficacy

Oct 14, 2007

I was wondering about the efficacy of vaccine development. If it is so difficult to develop a vaccine for HIV because of its constant mutations and the different clades, why do we invest so much time and money into developing a vaccine? Thank you for your time.

Response from Dr. Holodniy

Yes those are problems associated with HIV vaccine development, but it remains the most important mechanism to prevent further infections. I think we will get a viable vaccine at some point.
